Surabaya is the capital of the Indonesia province of East Java and the second-largest city in the country, after Jakarta. The city has a population of over 3 million whithin its city limits and over 10 million in the Surabaya metropolitan area, makeing it the second-largest metropolitan area in Indonesia. Located on the northeastern Java on the Madura Strait, it is one of the earliest port cities in Southeast Aisa. According to the National Development Planning Agency, Surabaya is one of the four main central cities of Indonesia, alongside Jakarta, Medan and Makassar.
In general, there is no best time to visit Surabaya . The climatic condition is generally either hot or wet. It really depends on the weather when you are there.
Surabaya is a very safe place. Here and there there can be petty crimes such as pick pocketing, so beware of your belongings. Single woman travelers have consistently rated Bandung as one of the safest cities to travel in, with very low crime rate against tourists.
It really depends on how much time you have got. The minimum recommended duration is 3 days while you can stay as long as 1 weeks to fully enjoy the city and its surrounding. We highly recommend to go to Bromo/Ijen and Malang during this trip.
You can also connect to drop off in Bali as Ijen is next to Bali.
Surabaya is generally known as a shopping city as it is the 2nd largest city in Indonesia. Common shopping places will be like Pakuwon Shopping Centre, Tunjungan Shopping Centre and Pasar Atom.
